Prayer for Wisdom to Elect the Best Officials
Scripture for Reflection and Preparation
“18 Do not take revenge or bear a grudge against members of your community, but love your neighbor
as yourself; I am the Lord.” Leviticus 19:18
“38 This is the greatest and most important commandment.
39 The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:38-39
“8 If you really carry out the royal law prescribed in Scripture, You shall love your neighbor as yourself, you are doing well.” James 2:8
God’s people led by God’s Spirit must help the nation choose its leaders.
Preparation
- Praise God for who He is
- Confess your sinfulness and need for cleansing
- Allow His Spirit to draw you near
- Listen as He speaks to you
Ask God to…
- Prevent anything from happening that would prevent you from voting
- Help churches find ways to help Christians get to the polls to vote
- Convict Christians of their spiritual responsibility to vote
- Lead Christians to vote according to biblical values rather than for a party
- Lead Christians to vote according to biblical values rather than personal benefit
- Help you understand His will for the future of the country as you prepare to vote
- Help you share with your church the importance of voting
Thanksgiving
- Thank God for hearing you
- Trust that God is at work to accomplish His will

be able to teach others also.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2
“1 How good and pleasant it is when brothers can live together!” Psalm 133:1
“13 Submit to every human institution because of the Lord, whether to the Emperor as the supreme authority,
14 or to governors as those sent out by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. 15 For it is God’s will that you, by doing good, silence the ignorance of foolish people.” 1 Peter 2:13-15
God’s judgment or blessing on a nation is related directly to the morality of its citizens.
Preparation
- Praise God for who He is

- Allow His Spirit to draw you near
- Listen as He speaks to you
Ask God to…
- Send the strong convicting presence of His Spirit throughout the nation
- Raise up leaders who will advance and support God-honoring policies
- Help you know who He wants you to vote for in the upcoming election
- Expose to public scrutiny people who are working to undermine God-honoring laws and morality
- Convince Christians that they need to be involved in the life of the nation
- Confound the plans of the enemies of the United States
- Help the United States continue to be the world’s leader in promoting freedom for all people.

“11 The one who loves a pure heart and gracious lips-the king is his friend.” Proverbs 22:11
Candidates for public office must be transparent with the public about their beliefs.

Ask God to…
- Help people understand what candidates are planning to do if elected
- Give you insight to discern who are the most trustworthy candidates
- Cause candidates who are not trustworthy to be defeated
- Lead church leaders to hold issue education events at their churches
- Help you share with others the importance of voting for people based on the issues rather than party or personal interest
- Convince candidates that His values are the best for people to live by
- Cause the media to give fair coverage to candidates who hold biblical values and positions
