A Gift for Life

{REL[7576][photo]I1fJgpzVREL}If you do an Internet search with the terms “abortion centers” and “Phoenix, Arizona” you’ll receive page after page of search results, including a Google map of the city, which paint an unattractive picture.
Scattered across the street map of Greater Phoenix are red dots representing businesses that encourage a woman’s right to “choose” to dispose of her unborn baby. Planned Parenthood and its abortion-friendly “clinics” blanket the city.
The sad and deadly reality is that there is an abortion provider not far from wherever you find yourself in this western city of some 3.25 million people.
Yet the Psalm 139 Project and Southern Baptists in Arizona have an innovative plan to push back the darkness and rescue the city’s unborn who are at risk (Proverbs 24:11-12).
Along with the Arizona State Baptist Convention, the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission is praying that gifts to the Psalm 139 Project can fund a portable ultrasound machine to be used in pregnancy care centers across Phoenix.
In anticipation of the placement of a new machine in Arizona, an anonymous donor has promised a sizable sum to purchase and outfit a new van to use as a mobile ultrasound examination room. The only thing that is lacking is the ultrasound unit itself!
As you consider your gifts during this special time of year, I would encourage you to consider giving the gift of life through your support of the Psalm 139 Project and be a part of the effort in getting this ultrasound-equipped van on the streets on Phoenix. Just as Christ came to take away the fear of death and set us free, won’t you help us to lead abortion-minded birth mothers toward the path of life and hope?
Appreciating the importance of this ultrasound technology for those ministering to women in crisis pregnancies, the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission launched the Psalm 139 Project as a means for Southern Baptists to get involved in saving lives–physically and spiritually. Today the Psalm 139 Project is a cooperative effort of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, the North American Missionary Board, and state Baptist conventions.
Through funds given by generous donors just like you, the Psalm 139 Project has already placed machines in pregnancy centers across the nation. These ultrasound machines cost approximately $25,000, an amount that can be an overwhelming financial burden for a center. Through the Psalm 139 Project, machines have been placed in Texas, California, Colorado, Mississippi, Indiana, and Florida.
Tax-deductible gifts can be sent to the “Psalm 139 Project,” c/o ERLC, 901 Commerce St., Suite 550, Nashville, TN 37203. You can also give easily and securely online through PayPal.
The Arizona State Baptist Convention has recently opened several pregnancy care centers in the Greater Phoenix area as an outreach to mothers who are considering or being pressured to abort their baby. This ultrasound machine on wheels will be used fulltime to allow these women to see for themselves the wondrous life that is growing within them.
Would you pray about how the Lord would have you partner with us in this effort? If you choose to give a tax-deductible gift to the Psalm 139 Project, you can use the enclosed donor card or you can make an online donation and learn more about the Psalm 139 Project by visiting psalm139project.org.
While it is customary for the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission to ask our friends to remember us in their year-end giving, this year we are instead asking you to consider a gift to the Psalm 139 Project.
Learn more about the Psalm 139 Project–an innovative ministry of life. You can be sure that every dollar goes to the effort to place ultrasound machines in pregnancy care centers, where the lives of babies are saved and moms are introduced to Jesus Christ.
We are more convinced than ever that the assault on the sanctity of human life will not cease until God’s people stand up and say enough is enough. Our society’s foundations will continue to weaken as this “culture of death” tightens its grip on the innocent and defenseless among us.
We appreciate your prayerful consideration of this opportunity to be a part of a larger effort to save the lives of the unborn and introduce their mothers to the Lord Jesus Christ.
God has redeemed us that we might do good works in His name and to His glory (Titus 2:11-14). We are hopeful you will partner with us in this critical effort.

Never have in 48 years faced this. Young married couple in our church, she was 19 weeks along. Has a sonogram this week and the baby HAS NO KIDNEYS AT ALL.
No hope unless a miracle and we still believe God can do that. The yound couple is seeking to do what God wants them to do. Any suggestions?

Abortion has never been considered murder under secular law. It has been illegal, but never treated as murder. It certainly is sin, and most likely is murder in the eyes of God. But lots of things that are sin are not illegal. I believe the only way to make abortion illegal under our Constitution would be for it be treated as pre-meditated murder. Certainly no one ever got an abortion through negligence or in the heat of passion. So what should the penalty for abortion be? The same as pre-meditated murder. Yet I don’t think very many folks would go along with that, which tells me they don’t REALLY believe it’s murder. It’s just contrary to their religious beliefs, and our Constitution does not care about anyone’s religious beliefs.

Pray for a miracle, have the baby, and let nature take its course at birth. If the baby dies, so be it. Pre-sonogram days that’s what would have happened, so why let technology make a difference. I cannot imagine God ever favoring an abortion, although I certainly believe He would forgive it. But my heart goes out to anyone faced with a decision like this.

You say the young couple is wanting to do what God wants. Well, what does God want any pregnant couple to do? Pray, prepare, follow doctor’s advice, be healthy, seek help when needed and so forth. Pastors face all kinds of difficult situations and they need to become strong and prepared to minister as well.
