Abortion as a right?

By Richard Land - Jul 21, 2009 -

Some people’s idea of health care reform includes expanding the availability of an abortion – paid for by your tax dollars! For our nation’s sake, you need to hear more about this previously unknown part of the president’s attempts to remake the health care industry.

That is why I will join other pro-life leaders to bring attention to the dangers of this legislation during the “Stop the Abortion Mandate Webcast" this Thursday night.

The various government healthcare reform bills currently being considered in the Congress could well open the door to the greatest expansion of government subsidized abortions in our nation’s history by including coverage of a woman’s voluntary termination of their pregnancy in the public insurance option.

Unless Congress specifically prohibits abortion services being covered as an “essential benefit,” government bureaucrats will inevitably create an “abortion mandate” for both public health insurance plans and publicly subsidized private plans.

Then tens of millions of Americans will be forced to pay through their taxes for that which they find morally reprehensible. Let’s remember, the majority of Americans (51 percent) now describe themselves as “pro-life.”

Thomas Jefferson once said, “To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas his disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.” Imagine how much stronger his indignation would be at the prospect of the government forcing citizens to fund not only the propagation of ideas they abhor but underwriting what they consider to be the killing of unborn human beings.

I encourage you to join me online this Thursday night (July 23, 2009) in this most important Webcast. All pro-life Americans need to speak out and speak out now.
