Abortion conscience clause survives House
- Sep 1, 2004 - comment
A measure to protect pro-life health care providers and insurers has survived the House of Representatives.
The House approved the legislation Sept. 9 as part of an appropriations bill funding the departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education next year, according to LifeNews.com. Since the House version differs from the Senate-approved bill, a conference committee of senators and representatives will negotiate a final report to be voted on by both houses.
The conscience clause would protect hospitals, insurance companies, nurses and other heath care workers who refuse to take part in or provide funding for abortions, LifeNews reported.
