Kentucky Marriage Amendment

On Tuesday, the citizens of Kentucky will vote on the Kentucky Marriage Amendment. The issue of same sex marriage is one of the most important issues we face. If we lose the battle for marriage, the consequences for our culture will be devastating. It is not possible to expand the definition of marriage without affecting everyone’s perception of its value. Scandinavian countries that have legalized same sex marriage have experienced a staggering decrease in commitment to marriage by heterosexual people. In some regions of Norway, for example, marriage is almost a forgotten institution. Men and women are choosing to live together without the commitment of marriage. Today the vast majority of children in these regions are being born into the homes of unmarried couples.

And of course, our greatest concern must be God’s attitude toward current attempts to redefine marriage. Marriage is God’s design for humanity, and it is clear that He intended only heterosexual marriage. In the Garden of Eden, God created man and woman. At the first marriage ceremony, Adam was joined with Eve, according to God’s design (Gen. 2:18-25). Thousands of years later, when Jesus was asked to comment on marriage, He repeated God’s original design (Matt. 19:3-6).

Friends, we cannot violate God’s design without suffering the consequences. Much rides on the decision our nation makes on the subject of same sex marriage. I hope that you will join the millions of other men and women in Kentucky and around the country on Tuesday to cast your vote for marriage. I hope you will vote YES on the Kentucky Marriage Amendment.

I look forward to hearing that Kentucky joined the many other states around our nation that voted in overwhelming numbers to protect marriage as God designed it. May God bless you as you bring the Salt and Light of His truth into the world.
