Land: AARP Doesn’t Speak for Me
- Sep 16, 2009 - 8
While saying it has not endorsed any health care reform legislation, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) has launched a campaign to debunk a "tsunami of rumors, myths, fear-mongering and misinformation about the proposals" addressing health care and insurance.
AARP's denial that it is not supporting a particular plan is challenged by many Americans, as well as the group's assertion that Medicare won't be impacted by changes to health care.
The ERLC's Richard Land said the AARP doesn't speak for him. During a recent Richard Land Live! broadcast he discussed his feelings on AARP's involvement in the healthcare debate:
Unlike most people in Washington, D.C., your ERLC staff has read H.R. 3200–the House bill to "reform" health care. Read the ERLC's rigorous review of the legislation.

AARP has taken positions and been active in lobbying for many things which have nothing to do with senior concerns, and some of them have mitigated against a Christian worldview.

Having read ERLC’s so-called “rigorous review” and found it to be nothing more than a rehash of republican talking-points, I’ll go with AARP. I have a lot more faith in them.

Re: the Rifqa Bary conversion to Christianity and her flight to escape injury of death - it’s a good thing that she is already in the United States. If she were in another country and seeking asylum in the U.S. for the same reason, it probably would not be granted by our government. U.S. muslims, like those elsewhere, claim the right to impose sharia law on current or former muslims, which can include maiming, beheading, ‘honor killing’, etc.

This is the reason I have never joined AARP. They want to use their membership numbers and dues to back liberal policies.

AARP does NOT speak for me either. I thought they thought more clearly than this.

My wife and I have dropped our membership and sent a letter to AARP and telling them that their position of support for Obama care is the main reason.

Just got back my acknowledgment of cancelation from the AARP and my requested refund of nearly $25.00 for dues paid in advance. I can find something better to spend my money on than promoting their agenda.

Sir,Mr. Land, If you are continually giving your opinion concerning your political views and your convoluted ideas concerning health care, I firmly believe you should resign as leader of our ethics commission. Christian ethics should dictate offering ideas to alleviate the suffering of the poor, not accusing those striving to solve health care issues of being Nazis. Sincerely,Your Brother in Christ
