Ohio Same-Sex Marriage Vote

By Richard Land - Oct 29, 2004 - 7

On Tuesday, the citizens of Ohio will vote on State Issue 1, “The Marriage Protection Amendment.” The issue of same sex marriage is one of the most important issues we face. If we lose the battle for marriage, the consequences for our culture will be devastating. It is not possible to expand the definition of marriage without affecting everyone’s perception of its value. Scandinavian countries that have legalized same sex marriage have experienced a staggering decrease in commitment to marriage by heterosexual people. In some regions of Norway, for example, marriage is almost a forgotten institution. Men and women are choosing to live together without the commitment of marriage. Today the vast majority of children in these regions are being born into the homes of unmarried couples.

And of course, our greatest concern must be God’s attitude toward current attempts to redefine marriage. Marriage is God’s design for humanity, and it is clear that He intended only heterosexual marriage. In the Garden of Eden, God created man and woman. At the first marriage ceremony, Adam was joined with Eve, according to God’s design (Gen. 2:18-25). Thousands of years later, when Jesus was asked to comment on marriage, He repeated God’s original design (Matt. 19:3-6).

Friends, we cannot violate God’s design without suffering the consequences. Much rides on the decision our nation makes on the subject of same sex marriage. I hope that you will join the millions of other men and women in Ohio and around the country on Tuesday to cast your vote for marriage. I hope you will vote YES on State Issue 1, “The Marriage Protection Amendment.”

I look forward to hearing that Ohio joined the many other states around our nation that voted in overwhelming numbers to protect marriage as God designed it. May God bless you as you bring the Salt and Light of His truth into the world.

Gay marriage won’t affect anyone except gay couples. That is why it is referred to as GAY marriage. It won’t affect the institution at all. Thats just a scare tactic, and I don’t understand why its such an important issue to stop. What about terrorism, Gays love as much as everyone else. Whether you agree or not, you can at least agree that it is a fact that the institution of marriage is having problems in America. What isn’t a fact is that allowing gay marriage will make that problem worse.

It is not your right to stop two people in love from getting married- and if you think just because the Bible said it was wrong that it is, then you also think it’s ok to have slaves, which is also stated in the Bible- look, men wrote passages in the bible, not God- so even if you do believe in God you shouldn’t take the bible so seriously
It was written by people in olden times and times change
Personally if God wants to stop people who love each other from marrying I really don’t want him to be our God.
People can’t help being gay, it’s not like someone just wakes up and decides Hey, I want to stir things up and be gay.
People are just born that way- studies have proven this, I think you just don’t understand it so just think about that.
How would you like it if people discriminated against you because you were heterosexual and didn’t allow you to marry?

Did GOD not tell you to “love” all your brothers and sisters?

What is so wrong with gay marriage? NOTHING

Are you judging another of GOD’s children? YES

Is that not a sin? YES

I really think that everyone just needs to talk rationally about this issue.  but things that must first be understood are these: You don’t choose to be gay, and this country is built on the idea of equal rights. Who is any leader, political or religious, and who is any citizen to take away the right of someone else? Being in love and not being allowed to commit to that person legally under the union of marriage is so hurtful.  Everyone should have equal rights to marry, regardless of orientation. I hope that people like the author of the article above will open their eyes to their own religion.  how dare you use God to back your absurd ideas. the same God created me, Gay and faithful. Love one another, the bible says, and love means to respect the rights of others.
