Parental Notification for Abortion Vote in Senate
- Jul 19, 2006 - 1
Dear Friends:
As the mercury continues to rise outside, the temperature inside the halls of Congress is heating up as well, with numerous pro-family bills being debated and voted on prior to the congressional August recess. The Senate is expected to vote on Thursday on the Child Custody Protection Act (S. 403), a bill that would make it a federal crime to transport a minor across state lines for an abortion in circumvention of parental notification or judicial authorization laws.
More than half of the states have laws that require consent from a parent or judge in order for a girl under the age of 18 to receive an abortion. However, many young, pregnant girls travel to nearby states without consent laws—often as a result of coercion by older boyfriends—to abort their babies. The Child Custody Protection Act would make it crime for such abortions to continue. Any abortion clinic practitioner in a state with no consent laws who performs an abortion on an underage girl from another state without receiving consent from the girl’s parent or a judge would be prosecuted.
This legislation has been voted on and passed numerous times, including the 109th congressional session, in the House of Representatives. Unfortunately, the Senate has failed to act during these sessions. Meanwhile, young girls who have found themselves with unexpected pregnancies continue to be pressured into abortions. In most states, students cannot receive medication or participate in field trips without consent from a parent, yet a pregnant minor can drive to a neighboring state and end the life within her with no such parental involvement.
If you agree that young girls from states with parental notification laws should not be able to receive abortions in another state without their parents’ consent, please tell your senators to vote for the Child Custody Protection Act. You can reach your senators by dialing the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. If you prefer email, just click here and follow the instructions.
I abhor the taking of all unborn lives, but until we see the day when abortion clinics are mandated out of business, we must seek to save every life possible and help young women receive the guidance they need before making a decision of such gravity. Thank you for caring enough to help protect these young girls and to offer greater hope for a full life for the precious unborn lives inside them.

although you do have the right to your own opinion, there are risks too having abortion become illegal. the mother may not want the child and yes she should have thought about the consequenses before acting in a way that she would know could get her in troubl, having an abortion should be her decision not yours or anbody elses for that matter. maybe thinking about how she feels would be a better way to think about this
