Senate Soon to Vote on Judge Alito

By Richard Land - Jan 5, 2006 - comment

Just days from now, the U.S. Senate will debate and cast its vote to determine whether Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. will become an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Judge Alito’s 30-year track record shows his thorough understanding of the U.S. Constitution and firm commitment to its faithful interpretation and application. A graduate of Princeton University and Yale Law School, Judge Alito has more prior judicial experience than any Supreme Court nominee in over 70 years. During his distinguished career, he has argued 12 Supreme Court cases while serving in the U.S. Justice Department. Further, he has argued at least two dozen appeals court cases and over 50 others. In 1990, Judge Alito was nominated by President George H.W. Bush to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and was approved unanimously by the Senate.

Despite Judge Alito’s excellent credentials, opponents remain persistent in their mission to block his nomination. On January 4, the American Bar Association gave him a well-qualified rating, the same rating given to recent nominee and now Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. But even this highest possible ABA rating is not enough to satisfy the opposition, many of whom have a hidden agenda to strip our nation of its religious liberties, eliminate all rights of the unborn, and expand the definition of marriage, among other things. Judge Alito’s proven strict-constructionist philosophy brings assurance that he will neither attempt to legislate from the bench nor yield to the shifting morality of our times. Instead, he will remain true to our Founders’ original intent.

Please call your senators and urge them to vote for Judge Alito if you believe, as I do, that he has the credentials and commitment to serve on the Supreme Court. The time to call is right now. Simply dial the Capitol switchboard at 202/224-3121 to connect to the senator of your choice.

I greatly appreciate you taking a few minutes out of your day to inform your senators that you support Judge Alito. Your call or email to your senators can help get Judge Alito confirmed as an added voice of integrity on the Supreme Court.
