The House Health Care Bill Exposed

By staff - Aug 3, 2009 - 20 -

In an effort to expose the hidden truth behind health care reform proposals, the ERLC has combed through the massive health care reform bill moving through the House of Representatives.

From the conclusion:

The House Health Care Bill, H.R. 3200, is 1017 pages in length. The magnitude of the bill along with the innumerous citations to other legislation makes it nearly impossible to figure out what everything in the bill actually means. The information in this document is a compilation of what we have determined to be the most dangerous language in the bill and our analysis of what that language could potentially mean.

The simple fact is that if passed, no one can say for certain how badly this will all play out in practice. However, what we can say with absolute certainty is that this legislation will lead to diminished health care for most Americans, less choice, higher taxes, and unprecedented government intrusion into every level and aspect of society, from business, to education, to marriage, to individual liberty.

H.R. 3200 may be downloaded in its entirety here (1.8 MB PDF).

Dear Dr. Richard Land,

I listen to your broadcast on KCIV Bott Radio Network.

I agree with everything I hear you say. Thank you for standing in the gap for us and getting us up to speed on HR3200. I heard your comments with Dr. Betty McCoy last week and ordered the HR3200 bill by email.

I am glad you have experts to digest its many tentacles. This is totally bad legislation.

I read you letter to President Elect Obama. Nice letter.

Keep up the good work for all of us. I fought in Vietnam for the rights of its citizens. I cannot believe we must now fight for the rights of our precious citizens, the unborn. If this situation were in a different country we would say the communists are in control.

Thank you for all your hard work.

As a Southern Baptist who believes in the sanctity of life how can I exercise my religious rights if mandated by this Health Bill to pay tax on my income to support government funded abortion and euthanasia?

The 1st amendment says that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof: etc.

How can I concienously exercise my religion when the government by law is requiring me to fund the murder of innocent unborn children or elderly adults?

Also isn’t the 4th amendment being violated with the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, etc.

I do not want the government to have access to my bank accounts, financial records, or any other data which they may deem necessary to provide me health care.

The ninth amendment also supports the above.

I am posting all my findings at http://beltoftruth.wordpress.com/. I am already up to update #5 and am about 1/3 of the way finished.

If this bill passes in any form that is remotely similar to what is already proposed, this country may never recover and our lives will be forever changed as Americans.

Since I have faith and believe in God’s sovereignty, I have no fear for myself, but for the unbelievers and fallen Christians who do not trust God.

God bless you for your efforts.

Healthcare Reform Bill.  We do need our healthcare system upgraded, but we do not need any more government involvement in our personal lives.  I find it especially abhorrent that abortion would be paid for by my tax dollars.  Would I next be paying for euthanasia?

H. R. 3200 is no more than an attempt by liberal democrats and a few spineless republicans to grab power and lord it over the American people, to fund abortion and to give amnesty to illegal aliens at the expense of the elderly and the terminally ill and for the promotion of the rich and powerful.

The survivors (healthy people) will be their slaves with a semblance of freedom but being taxed to death.  If we ever get to vote again, vote conservative.

In reading this “biblical” analysis, I did not find any conclusions about what this would do for the under-insured or non-insured citizens of our country. Our God clearly tells us that we need to care for the poor among us, yet it seems the only “conclusions” that were made in your analysis have to do with those who “have” and there is nothing about those who “have not”.  Have we no regard for the poor?

As a pastor I have to deal with the tragic situation of people with no health care coverage because they work minimum wage jobs and cannot afford food and shelter, never mind private health care.  Do you really think our present system is good for them?

I am not necessarily for this health care program, but I would have liked to see a “BIBLICAL” analysis, based on biblical mandates and how this bill touches on them. In my opinion I read more of a “political” analysis.

He has a very hard time swallowing, but his blood pressure, mental function and other vital signs are still good. He is very emaciated, due to the fact that he can hardly swallow even much soup. He is under “palliative” care, which is Canadian for “put them on morphine and let them die, ASAP” I was told by his neurologist, Dr. Chris White, of Calgary, that, in Japan, patients like Rev. Many of us have regard for the poor. But we should not require through legislation that individuals give their finances for others’ health care. It has to be up to an individual’s free will if they will give to others, the Bible never endorses governments to legally force benevolence with legislation, but individuals to do so because of their faith in the age to come and the King of that age.
As far as biblical analysis vs. political analysis, is it moreso a biblical question or a political question when we speak of abortion and euthanasia being required of people and paid by my taxes? I see both…

Wake up, Polly-Anna.  Stop sobbing over poor, unfortunate people without insurance long enough to see what H.R. 3200 is really going to do to Americans.  It will ravage the economy, the insurance industry, take freedom from the people and put power into the hands of government.  The elderly and terminally ill will no longer be seen as valid human beings but as numbers with a dollar value.  Fear for them.  Cry for them.  The Bible teaches that it is good for the strong to care for the weak.  That is why God gives money to the rich.  Learn the parable of the rich farmer who said, “Self, you are rich and set for life with this great harvest, etc.”  God said to him, “You fool, don’t you know your life will be required of you tonight?”  He should have fed the poor.

Second, show me in the Bible, where Jesus says to take from the rich and give to the poor. It is our duty as Christians to take care of widows and orphans and to give voluntarily to the poor, not to have the government take from any of us and give it to those it deems worthy.

Our health care system does need reform, but not using theft by the government of some of its citizens to “care” for some of the other citizens.

Our Constitution does not give the government the authority to do this and for over one hundred years, we have been “finding” things in the Constitution that do not exist.

Is it my duty as a Christian, yes, but that is what churches and charities are supposed to do, not government.

RE: John, Post 8,  “responses that have been posted on these “christian” web sites… You truly are all hypocrites.”

Funny thing. I think a lot of Christians would agree with you.

After all, to be a hypocrite requires only that a person say one thing and act in such a way as to contradict what they said/believed. Alas, this tendency is not limited to Christians. I would argue it’s a rather “human” character flaw. (See also “politician”.)

Christianity, properly practiced, acknowledges (different from “accepts”) our human flaws and strives to overcome them as we mature spiritually through the work of Christ in our lives.

In fact, it could be argued that it is impossible to become a Christian unless one admits they are, indeed, a hypocrite.

Kind regards.

P.S. I think this forum is open to the public, not just Christians. So it’s rather implausible to project the online statements of a few [hypocrites] to an entire population, religiously affiliated or otherwise.

I read your analysis this morning and was appalled, not at the legislation but at your analysis.  The only part of the conclusion that I agree with is that it is needlessly complicated.  I agree with Dave also.

Rather than analyze this from the point of a political agenda try thinking of those who are not covered now.

Healthcare is now rationed based on wealth.  The insured are already paying for the uninsured because hospitals and clinics are required to treat the uninsured now and just raise their prices to absorb this into their billing to insured customers.

It is a shame that a political agenda should be profligated by a religious organization.  I suggest you go back and reanalyze the bill truthfully and give a real analysis instead of political theology.  The Southern Baptist deserve better than this.

I happen to be one of those poor unfortunate souls that Bill Keith talked about on August 13th. My wife has had breast cancer twice, and I currently have non-hodgkins lymphoma. Every day me and my wife are playing russian roulette. If something happens we have to go to the emergency room. I’m sure Bill is lucky enough to be able to afford insurance. Bill, don’t worry about the rest of us, as it is already evident that you don’t.
