The Ryan-DeLauro Bill: A Phony Means to Reduce Abortions

By staff - Aug 6, 2009 - 1

There has been much discussion about finding common ground on reducing the number of abortions. The Ryan-DeLauro bill (H.R. 3312) is one proposal in Congress being trumpeted by its sponsors as a means to reach this common ground between those who are pro-choice and others who are pro-life. Yet the bill would in fact result in more, not fewer, abortions. The ERLC has closely examined the finer details of this disturbing bill.

Our analysis of the Ryan-DeLauro bill (H.R. 3312) is available for download here (183KB PDF)

From the conclusion:

The Ryan-DeLauro bill (H.R. 3312) is an abortion bill. It provides federal funding and stipulations that will result in more abortions. Plan B is an abortion-inducing drug. Family planning services often include abortion and abortion-related offerings among their services. Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, will receive funding under this bill. … While it is promoted as a compromise bill that people on all sides of the abortion debate can support, in reality it is not. It is only a compromise for the pro-life community. The pro-abortion community has not given up anything in this bill. No abortion or abortion-related activity is restricted by this bill. On the other hand, the pro-life community is being asked to endorse more abortion funding in order to get some pro-life protections for pregnant women. All of the compromise in this bill is from the pro-life community.

Stop distorting the facts.  Planned Parenthood is a means of stopping abortions by teaching teens how to avoid unwanted pregnancy.  Under President Clinton and Hillary Clinton we saw a dramatic decrease of unwanted teen pregnancy because of laws and programs under way in the 1990’s.  As a baptist I am sad to report that under a admit christian BUSH we have seen those numbers sky rocket.  Explain yourselves.
