Vote on Hate Crimes Bill Imminent
- Jul 15, 2009
Dear Friends:
A vote on hate crimes legislation—a grave threat to the religious liberty of Christians—is imminent.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has just introduced hate crimes legislation as an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill (S. 1390). The Senate vote on the hate crimes bill is imminent.
Hate crimes legislation, better termed “thought crimes” legislation, would elevate homosexuals who are victims of violent crimes to special, protected status under the law based on their “actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.” But that’s just the beginning. It would lay the groundwork for prosecuting Christians who share their biblical beliefs against homosexuality. This dangerous bill must be stopped!
If you share our concerns, please call your senators immediately and urge them to vote “No” on the hate crimes amendment expected to be attached to the Defense Authorization bill (S. 1390). You can reach your senators here or by dialing the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121.
