New bill requires evidence of abortion’s pain in unborn

Pro-life members of Congress have opened a new front in the conflict over abortion.

Senate may act on hate-crimes measure

An effort to pass hate-crimes legislation that will expand homosexual rights may occur soon in the U.S. Senate. Sens. Supreme Court rejects appeal on VMI prayer

The U.S. Supreme Court has turned back an attempt by Virginia Military Institute to reinstate mealtime prayers.

The high court announced April 26 it would not review a decision by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals that the traditional invocation at VMI’s supper roll call ceremony was a violation of the Constitution’s ban on government establishment of religion. more »

ERLC, others call on Czechs to reject legal prostitution

The ERLC and more than 110 allies have called on the Czech Republic to reject reported plans to legalize prostitution.

In a May 5 letter to President Vaclav Klaus and other Czech leaders, ERLC President Richard Land and the co-signers said such an act “would be a terrible mistake for the country as a whole and, in particular, for the women and children of the Eastern Europe region who will be victims of the Czech sex trade.” It also would “irreparably harm” the Czech Republic’s relations with the United States and other countries, the letter warned. more »

Poll: Abortion marchers out of step with public

A poll conducted in mid-April showed those who participated in the March for Women’s Lives are out of step with most Americans.

A crowd estimated at a minimum of 500,000 gathered in Washington, D.C., for an April 25 rally that promoted an unrestricted right to abortion, but a survey barely a week old demonstrated only about 13 percent of those polled believe abortion should be permitted for any reason at any time during a pregnancy. more »
