Christians will continue to keep their faith in a box until they have the confidence to pull it out in front of a world demanding real answers to real questions.

Does the average church-goer have an answer for the virgin birth, the origin of sin and death, creation/evolution, the diety of Christ, or why Christ came? My observation is no.

Pastors and teachers are not giving their congregations good solid answers to real questions from the pulpit. Feel good sermons/lessons make people feel good at church but are not suitable for the real world.

The church is miles wide and inches deep. Start teaching doctrine and apologetics to give us real boldness again.

Wow, what truth I hear in this editorial! What have I to be ashamed of? My Savior is real, not a figment of my imagination. I know that truly if anyone has the right to be ashamed of anyone it is Christ of my sorry self. ( Not me of the King of Kings). I want to be bold and courageous—not afraid of what my coworkers and employer will do to me for believing in, loving, and trusting God with all my heart, soul, strength, and mind. Thank you for your gentle reminder.

I agree with the intent of this article, but as Scott says above, I too don’t believe Christians are equipped to face the world. How is a Christian’s political philosophy different than the world’s? Considering economics, does the Bible’s instructions on “equal weights and measures” have any relevance to inflation, the Federal Reserve board, fiat money, or tax law? If pyramid schemes are generally illegal why is not social security?

The first step is to distinguish between good and evil. The next step is to know how to apply biblical wisdom to replace the anti-biblical structure. Most Christians are not even at the first step in many areas.

Balance is the key. Feel good sermons of the “just do this, think this way, love one each other and life will be wonderful and you will be healthy and wealthy” type are killing the church, leaving Christians with no real answers to the realities of life. However, solely teaching doctrine and apologetics is also not the answer. Many church’s focus only on this and while their members can explain to you the eschatological and soteriological significance of a particular passage or theological system, they have no clue how to take that knowledge and make daily real life application.

It is not an “either or”, it is a “both and”, teaching Theology and Life Application together. Here it is, here is what it means, and here is how it works Monday thru Saturday in your home, your office, your school, your neighborhood, so you can live it out in a way that people notice such a difference in you that they want what you have and willing to listen to you share the Gospel with them.
