I saw the video of Mike Huckabee on abc news with George Stephanopolous and was very disappointed to hear of Dr. Land’s comment with regards to defeating Hillary Clinton. Why can’t the SBC, Dr. Land, or anyone else for that matter come out and back a presidential candidate that has served well as a governor and as a fellow minister? It makes no sense to me why this cannot happen. There is no other candidate that holds to the same values with consistency. I wish the SBC, which I serve in as a minister, would demonstrate the same faith that it encourages it’s members to have. I have prayed daily for Mike Huckabee to win this nomination and election. And I am convinced that he is God’s man for the job, not someone else that has a better shot at beating Hillary. Show some faith, endorse a fellow brother in the “Baptist” faith, regardless of the consequences. I am at times embarrassed of the politics within the Baptist Convention, it is time for us to show some faith.

I too am a fellow minister, but I cannot in good conscience support Huckabee. This is because of his stance on the invasion of Iraq. That invasion cannot be defended Biblically...it was nothing more than one country invading another for geo-political reasons. Iraq was ruled by an evil man, yes, but Saddam and Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. This means that the Bush invasion was an ungodly act and has resulted in the deaths of countless people created in the image of a Holy God.
The only choice I have among the candidates is a fellow Christian named Congressman Ron Paul. He is against ungodly, unchristian invasions, against policing the world and nation building. Ron Paul should be considered by every believer because he desires what the founding fathers desired, a nation governed by the Constitution, not the whims of evil men.

The only candidate that stands for Biblical principles is Mike Huckabee. Why would Guilani, Thompson, McCain, or Romney be ahead of Huckabee? Guilani says he opposes abortion, but supports a woman’s right to choose. Mitt Romney says he would like to see Roe v. Wade overturned, but wants the states and the elected representatives of the people and the people themselves have the ability to put in place pro-life legislation. Fred Thompson filled out a survey for Project Vote Smart when he was running for Senate. Under abortion: He checked the box for: “Abortions should be legal in all circumstances as long as the procedure is completed within the first trimester of the pregnancy.” John McCain said this in a newspaper interview, “certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations."I am praying that the SBC will support Huckabee.

There are many who could comment on this issue but those comments should be guarded. If I say that I believe God has called someone to be the next President and you say God has called someone else then who is right? As a Pastor, I will never tell my congregation how to vote; nor should the SBC. That is not their business. I pray the SBC would never openly say that we should support a particular candidate. I want my convention to help educate us but the choice must still remain our own. It is called “autonomy.” The truth of the matter is, the answer to our country’s woes is not found in a political office. It is found in the Church. Why are we looking for the government to fix what is wrong in this nation? If the Church would be the Church, we wouldn’t be having a problem with anyone who ran for office because self-serving Bureaucrats would never get elected. Pray and vote people. And please SBC; please don’t tell us how you think we should vote.
