Thank you so much for posting this conversation! At 23, I’ve struggled quite a bit with labels, preconceptions, and overly simplistic worldviews where religion and politics are concerned.

Having grown up in a Republican family, I used to hate “liberals” and think they were all out to destroy Christians and the world. (It doesn’t help that I live in Colorado and hear plenty about Boulder.)

However, as I’ve learned more about Christianity and the Republican platforms, I’ve discovered areas where I agree more with the Democrats or neither party.

I must say that I took notes watching this video. It spoke on many things that have bothered me for years; the close association with conservative Evangelicals with the Republicans, misrepresentation in media, the role of religion in government, and avoidance of the deeper issues for the sake of an easy answer.

Thank you for your thoughtful discussion! I look forward to further episodes between Brian McLaren and Richard Land.

Excellent post! This dialogue makes me proud to be a Christian in America. Especially at this point in the election season we need to remember that many of us are trying to follow God. The labels are rarely useful and end up hurting people. Terrific article. Really smashing.
