While I agree that the Word of God does not support Polygamy, I am wondering about taking all the children away from their parents and putting them in foster homes. I’m not sure the Word of God supports that either. What do you Think.

These events should be of great concern to the christian community. I am in complete agreement with this article (amen). But the actions of the state coming in and take children from their homes. What is to stop this action from being repeated because I teach my children to fear God and seek his ways so that their lives maybe long. Satan has away of twisting mans thoughts to accomplish his goals to destroy believers. I don’t know the answer but I know that we must be vigilant to these situations and be there like the church was in this situation and show people the real God of THE BIBLE.

You both raise good questions. You may be pleased to know that Richard Land has written an article wrestling with these very questions… freedom of religion v. protecting children. This article is scheduled to run in the Wall Street Journal tomorrow (May 2).

I’ll post a link to it on this thread once it’s online.

Using the basic “Reformation Hermeneutics” to establish Biblical doctrine, plural marriage is not forbidden in Scripture. Abraham, Jacob, Caleb, Gideon and David all practiced it, and were never corrected, disciplined or encouraged to abandon it anywhere in Scripture. Yet, Gideon was called to ministry while practicing polygyny. David was seriously corrected for “adultery” because of Bathsheba. Moreover, if polygyny was sin, the God of the universe, 100% pure, would have never used Himself as a metophorical example of a practicing polygynist - that would contradict His very character!

Blessings!

Pastor Randy,
While the bible doesn’t specifically call polygamy sin, Gods best for us is when a man (one) leaves his mother and father and clings to his wife (one). While may of our fathers had more than one wife, it almost always was a problem. Review Jacobs story with the rivalry that was always present between Leah and Rachael, and how about all the problems between Davids children. Or how about Ishmael and the decendants of Abrahams other children to Katora?? Aren’t christians still having problems with them??? Gods best comes through the relationship of one man with one woman. As Jesus said, Moses allowed a man to divorce his wife because of mans shortcomings, not because it was Gods will for us.

The old Covenant is not applicable since we have the new and better Covenant. I do not even advise reading the old Covenant. The Epistles are really applicable to the church today. Even the Gospels were under the old Covenant. The new Covenant started when Christ died and was resurrected. As the Apostle Paul said, let us move onto maturity in the faith.
