NASHVILLE, Tenn., March 14, 2006—Dr. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, will speak at a marriage retreat in Williamstown, Ky., at Mount Carmel Baptist Church March 25.
“The institution of marriage has served for all of history as the bedrock of society,” Land said. “The marriage of one man and one woman is the fount out of which flows the critical values that sustain and benefit societies. We must do everything we can to protect it.”
Land has served as spokesman for the largest non-Catholic denomination in the country since 1988. He has represented Southern Baptist and other evangelicals’ concerns in Congress, before U.S. presidents, and on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.
In February 2005, Land was featured in Time Magazine as one of “The Twenty-five Most Influential Evangelicals in America.”
The retreat, sponsored by the Crittenden Baptist Association, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Music will be lead by Rev. Arnie Forman and his wife, Susan, music leaders at Union Baptist Church.
Participants can choose two workshops, led by local pastors, ministry leaders and their wives, during the retreat. These workshops include “Romance Dressing: Lessons from a Salad Bowl,” “Ways to Prevent Marriage Failure,” “Starting a New Life: Searching Through the Eyes of a Step-Family,” and “Honey, Can Your Hear Me?”
The cost for the retreat, which includes lunch, is $25 per couple. Checks should be made payable and mailed to the Crittenden Baptist Association, 305 N. Main Street, Williamstown, Ky., 41097. Mailings should include the names of participants, their address, phone number and both spouses’ occupation.

Land will also speak at a rally at 7 p.m. March 25 at Williamstown Baptist Church. This event will be open to the public.
