ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Psalm 139 Project, a ministry of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, in partnership with Focus on the Family announced the placement of an ultrasound machine to Thrive St. Louis during the ERLC report, June 15, at the SBC annual meeting in St. Louis.
Russell Moore, ERLC president, announced the granting of the machine during his report to the convention.
“I am thrilled to be partnering with Focus on the Family in equipping Thrive St. Louis to minister further to unborn children and their mothers,” Moore said. “These machines are a powerful instrument in persuading women and families to choose life. Ministries like Thrive play an indispensable role in the church's advocacy for human dignity, and I pray that our churches would filled our communities with other such servants."
Bridget VanMeans, president and CEO of Thrive, also commented on the placement of the ultrasound machine.
“The fact that the Southern Baptist Convention is working with Focus on the Family in placing this state-of-the-art, newest-of the-new laptop ultrasound so that it can move around with the unit is pretty remarkable,” said VanMeans.
She said seeing an ultrasound image of her child gives a woman in a crisis pregnancy "a reality check, and the impact is very powerful, because between 80 and 90 percent of those girls will choose life when they see the baby on that image."
Financial proceeds for this ultrasound machine were raised by attendees at the first annual 2016 Evangelicals for Life event in Washington, D.C. EFL 2017 will take place January 26-27 at the JW Marriott in D.C. Top speakers will include Jim Daly, Al Mohler and Charmaine Yoest. Early registration is now open at evangelicals.life.
Since 2004, the ministry has provided ultrasound equipment for pregnancy care centers in San Marcos, Texas; New Albany, Ind.; Denver, Colo.; Corinth, Miss.; Lakeland, Fla.; Phoenix, Ariz.; New Orleans, La.; Houston, Texas; Columbus, Ohio; and Knoxville, Tenn.
One hundred percent of financial contributions donated to the Psalm 139 Project go toward purchasing sonogram machines and providing training for workers.
