WASHINGTON, D.C, Jan. 21, 2016Russell Moore, president of the Southern Baptist Conventions Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, presented awards to three pro-life leaders today at the first inaugural Evangelicals for Life dinner for their heroic work surrounding the sanctity of human life.

– David Platt, president of the International Mission Board, received the 2016 Pro-Life Leadership Award for his faithful preaching on issues of life and human dignity; his advocacy for victims of human trafficking, abortion and poverty; and his leadership in advancing the gospel around the world.

– Charmaine Yoest, president and CEO of Americans United for Life, received the 2016 Pro-Life Advocacy Award for her tireless advocacy for life and human dignity in the public square; her exemplary leadership in the pro-life movement; for working with legislators at the state and national levels to pass legislation that respects human dignity; and for her courageous Christian faith.

– Sen. James K. Lankford, R-Okla., received the 2016 Pro-Life Public Service Award for his stirring call on the Senate floor to protect human life at all levels; his courageous Christian witness in the public square; and for his tireless efforts to enact federal legislation that respects human dignity.

Moore commented on the award recipients.

These three are heroes in the struggle for the dignity of all human beings, including the most vulnerable, Moore said. They have worked in their various contexts tirelessly for the recognition that human beings are made in the image of God and that human rights are intrinsic, not delegated by others. Im glad three leaders of this caliber are the first to receive these Evangelicals for Life awards.

The dinner was a component of Evangelicals For Life, a historical major event sponsored by the ERLC and Focus on the Family in conjunction with the March for Life.

The Southern Baptist Convention is Americas largest Protestant denomination with more than 15.8 million members in over 46,000 churches nationwide. The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission is the SBCs ethics, religious liberty and public policy agency with offices in Nashville, Tenn., and Washington, D.C.
