WASHINGTON D.C., Feb. 14, 2014Russell D. Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, accepted an invitation to join the board of directors of the Becket Funda nonprofit, publicinterest legal and educational institute established in 1994 to protect the free expression of all religious traditions, and an organization that has been called one of the premier public-interest law firms working to defend religious freedom from encroachments by government.

The Becket Fund is untiring in standing up for religious liberty for all, said Moore. I am honored to join this great team, and I pray to represent the spirit of our freedom-fighter Baptist forebears such as Thomas Helwys, Isaac Backus and John Leland.”

William P. Mumma, president and chairman of the board for the Becket Fund commented on Dr. Moores decision to join the board of directors.

“The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty is delighted that Dr. Russell Moore has joined its board,” said Mumma. “Dr. Moore has been longtime defender of religious liberty and has a keen understanding of the challenges we face as a nation.”

The Southern Baptist Convention is Americas largest non-Catholic denomination with more than 15.9 million members in over 46,000 churches nationwide. The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission is the SBCs ethics, religious liberty and public policy agency with offices in Nashville, Tenn. and Washington, D.C.
