The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry

How to Stay Emotionally Healthy and Spiritually Alive in the Chaos of the Modern World

Jeff Pickering

I first learned of John Mark Comer through his excellent podcast, “This Cultural Moment,” co-hosted with fellow pastor, Mark Sayers, on ministry in post-Christian cities. So, when I saw this bright orange Instagram ad for his book saying “How to stay emotionally healthy and spiritually alive in the chaos of the modern world,” I put it on my Christmas list. His rich research regarding how we all got so busy, followed by pastoral words of what to do about it, is exactly what I needed while working among the relentless news cycle in Washington, D.C.

Jeff Pickering is the director of the Initiative on Faith & Public Life, a project of the American Enterprise Institute. AEI is a leading public policy think tank in Washington, DC and the initiative exists to equip Christian college students for faithful engagement in public life. Jeff moved to Washington to work for Russell Moore at the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, where he led ERLC’s public policy communications, directed the internship program, and hosted the weekly Capitol Conversations podcast. Jeff previously worked in both local church ministry and government affairs in his home state of Texas. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University. He and his wife, Chelsea, have a son and daughter.
