ERLC and Colorado Baptists oppose “Kelly Loving Act,” a radical gender ideology bill

Bulletin insert for Colorado churches

Colorado

The Colorado House of Representatives passed a bill that would promote radical gender ideology to minors, strip fundamental parental rights, and burden free speech. It is now pending a vote in the Senate before proceeding to the governor’s desk.

The “Kelly Loving Act,” or HB 25-1312, would make using a person’s name given at birth and using a person’s biologically correct pronouns discriminatory actions under the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act. It also requires dress-coded public schools to allow children of either biological sex to choose between following the boys or girls dress code without their parent’s consent or guidance.

Why is this extreme legislation so concerning?

Religious Liberty

If passed, this bill will force people to use language that violates their consciences and religious beliefs. It would also expose individuals, ministries, and religious organizations to legal action for simply affirming a biblical worldview of sex and gender.

Parental Rights

This bill permits the government to interfere with how parents raise their children, especially when it comes to matters of gender. Further, it would allow Colorado courts to use a parent’s biblical view of gender and sexuality as evidence against them in custody disputes.

What can you do to oppose this radical gender bill?

Here are ways you can advocate for God’s good design in Colorado:

  • Pray for wisdom for elected officials in Colorado, for them to embrace the truth of biological realities, and for a state that celebrates God’s good design for gender and sexuality.
  • Advocate by contacting your local senator and urging them to vote against this bill. You can find your senator’s contact information here: https://leg.colorado.gov/FindMyLegislator
