ERLC Appoints RaShan Frost to Serve as Senior Fellow with Human Dignity Focus

Nashville, Tenn., March 27, 2024 —The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, has hired RaShan A. Frost, Ph.D., to serve as a senior fellow with an emphasis on matters related to a broad range of issues related to human dignity.

Frost is the lead pastor of The Bridge Church in North Charleston, South Carolina, and is also an adjunct professor of Christian Studies at Charleston Southern University. His area of research interests include:

  • Christian ethics with an emphasis in social ethics and human dignity;
  • Political theology;
  • And the intersection between ethics, faith, and public life.

“The area of human dignity touches every aspect of our ethical lives,” said Frost. “As Christians, we understand that it informs our view of human life, not as we determine, but as God has established in creation by making humanity in the imago Dei. I am excited about lending my expertise in the area of human dignity by serving as a senior fellow with the ERLC, because this work is an opportunity to present ways for Baptists to think through how human dignity, based on the imago Dei, informs our ethics, social issues, and views of our shared public life in a way that seeks the glory of God and the good of our neighbors.”

Frost earned his doctor of philosophy in theology with a concentration in public theology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina.

“Dr. Frost is one of the finest examples of a scholar-practitioner in Southern Baptist life, and I am excited for him to join our research team as one of our senior fellows,” said ERLC President Brent Leatherwood. “He brings a wealth of expertise on some of the most pressing moral issues being debated in public life as well as the wisdom needed to speak both uncompromised truth and grace as we seek to bring hope to the public square.”

Prior to his current role as pastor of The Bridge Church, Frost served as executive director of 1Charleston, a group of ministry leaders and lay people committed to the gospel impact on multi-ethnic unity and ministry in the city of Charleston. Frost is active in denominational leadership as well, serving with the Charleston Baptist Association and the Committee on Committees of the South Carolina Baptist Convention.

Frost received a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Auburn University, where he played college football. He also holds a master of divinity degree from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He and his wife have two sons.

Frost joins Jason Thacker as a senior fellow on the ERLC research team. Thacker, who also serves as director of the Research Institute, serves as a senior fellow focused on pro-life and other bioethical issues including abortion, reproductive technologies, medical care, euthanasia, and end-of-life decision making.

The Southern Baptist Convention is America’s largest Protestant denomination with more than 13.6 million members and a network of over 47,000 cooperating churches and congregations. The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission is the SBC’s ethics, religious liberty and public policy agency with offices in Nashville, Tenn., and Washington, D.C.
