ERLC Responds to Federal Ruling to Grant GuideStone a Preliminary Injunction Against HHS Mandate

Washington, D.C., Dec. 20, 2013Today, a U.S. District Court Judge in Oklahoma, Timothy DeGiusti, issued a preliminary injunction against the federal governments HHS mandate after GuideStone, the financial services arm of the Southern Baptist Convention, entered into suit seeking relief against the law.

Russell D. Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention reacts to the ruling:

“Cheers for this first step toward a historic win for religious liberty, said Moore. A government that can coerce the conscience is a government that had overstepped its God-appointed bounds. We are thankful for Guidestone and the gospel grit of President O.S. Hawkins. We’re still early in this fight but this is good news.”

The Southern Baptist Convention is Americas largest non-Catholic denomination with more than 15.8 million members in over 46,000 churches nationwide. The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission is the SBCs ethics, religious liberty and public policy agency with offices in Nashville, Tenn. and Washington, D.C.
