The famous English abolitionist William Wilberforce once said, “You may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know.”
When it comes to vulnerable people in our communities, Christians are often tempted to look the other way. We, like the religious leaders in Jesus’ day, have convenient and sanctified-sounding reasons to pass by on the road to Jericho. But if we are to truly love our neighbors as ourselves, we must come alongside those whose dignity is being assaulted.
And perhaps none of our neighbors are as threatened as those who have yet to be born. Every year in the United States, hundreds of thousands of babies are killed. Society may see them as mere clumps of cells or fetuses, but God sees them for who they are: human beings created in his image.
This gross injustice is what motivates our Psalm 139 Project. We come alongside the heroic staff and volunteers of pregnancy resource centers around the country who, everyday, are supporting young women in crisis. These centers welcome vulnerable women and their babies and not only offer them better choices, but equip them to face the daunting challenge of parenting with grace.
Psalm 139 is King David’s reminder that every human life is knit with care, by God, in the mother’s womb. The Psalm 139 Project helps mothers see what God is knitting, to hear the heartbeat, to see the fingers and toes develop, to see their child at the earliest stages. Ultrasound technology helps us see what God already sees: the humanity of an unborn baby. And after seeing, a majority of pregnant women choose life.
This initiative exists thanks to the faithful donations of people committed to saving unborn children. And this may be the most effective, tangible way to live out our pro-life convictions. Elections come and go. While we work, feverishly, for laws that recognize the humanity of the unborn, we can save the babies in front of us right now, with life-saving ultrasound technology.
Because we care deeply about the abortion issue, I urge you to consider making an investment in our Psalm 139 Project. Every dollar you send will go toward placing one of these critical machines in a city in America. In the last year, we placed machines in Port St. Lucie, Las Cruces, Rock Hill, and Tallahassee. But imagine if we could double or triple that each year.
We are uncertain as to the way the political winds will blow next year, but we are certain that the investment in placing machines in pregnancy resource centers will save lives. It is one of the most important ways to spend your pro-life dollars.
So, will you join us? Will you decide to not look the other way? Will you see humanity where others see a mere inconvenience? Will you invest in saving these precious children created in God’s image?
Thanks to the generosity of our cooperating churches and supporters like you, the ERLC is able to be advocate for life in the public square. Help us place more ultrasounds in pregnancy resource centers by making a tax-deductible gift to the Psalm 139 Project where 100% of your gift will go directly to ultrasound machines placements.
