WASHINGTON, April 28, 2006—Dr. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, will be speaking at “The Rally to Stop Genocide,” addressing the genocide crisis in Sudan’s Darfur region, April 30, at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

The rally will include a broad spectrum of prominent faith leaders, political figures, human rights activists, celebrities and survivors of genocide.

The Save Darfur Coalition, an alliance of more than 160 faith-based, humanitarian and human rights organizations, organized “The Rally to Stop Genocide.”

The rally is part of the “Million Voices for Darfur” campaign to generate one million postcards for delivery to President Bush, who recently pledged to push for additional U.N. and NATO help to protect the people of Darfur. The coalition continues to urge President Bush to take steps necessary to end the genocide and build a lasting peace.

The rally is also the final stop of the “Tour for Darfur: Eyewitness to Genocide,” a 21,000-mile photo exhibit and speaking tour to raise public awareness about the Darfur crisis.

The program will begin at 2:00 p.m. and last until 4:30 p.m. Crowd assembly will begin at 1:30 p.m.

The Southern Baptist Convention is America’s largest non-Catholic denomination with more than 16.3 million members in over 43,500 churches nationwide. The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission is the SBC’s ethics, religious liberty and public policy agency with offices in Nashville, Tenn., and Washington, D.C.
