Understanding the Pro-Abortion Constitutional Amendment on Your Ballot

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Gen. 1:27)

Life is on the ballot in New York in the form of a pro-abortion ballot initiative called the “Equal Protection of Law Amendment.”

A “no” vote protects life by preventing the expansion of the predatory abortion industry.  New York currently allows abortion through week 24 of pregnancy. By voting no on this amendment, New Yorkers can ensure that future laws passed in New York to protect life are allowed to go into effect.

A “yes” vote supports amending the New York state constitution to change existing state civil rights protections in New York by adding in “pregnancy outcomes and reproductive healthcare and autonomy” as a protected class. Essentially, these changes would further impede the government from enacting laws that protect life and may infringe upon existing religious liberty protections while further restricting meaningful pro-life work from being allowable under state law..

Election Day is ⁦Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024⁩.

You can find voting information here: https://www.ny.gov/services/register-vote

What can New York Christians do to stand for life?

There are several ways you can promote a culture of life in New York:

  • Pray for wisdom for New York voters, for the defeat of this amendment, and for a robust culture of life to take hold.
  • Stand for life at the ballot. The amendment only needs 50% approval of voters to pass, so every vote against this measure counts in the effort to protect life.
  • Educate others about the true nature of this proposal.
  • Advocate by contacting your local representatives and encouraging them to stand firm in their defense of life.
  • Support pro-life organizations by volunteering with or donating to those who are actively working to promote a culture of life in New York.
