Today and tomorrow, in anticipation of the fourth anniversary of the landmark Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, senators will take to the Senate floor to draw attention to the need for continued federal pro-life advocacy and to call for the immediate consideration of a slate of bills that would honor the sanctity and dignity of human life. Bills that would institute crucial protections for life, like the Title X Abortion Prohibition Act and the SAVE Moms and Babies Act, will be presented and debated on the floor. While the Dobbs decision gave states the authority to regulate abortion, the justices also clearly affirmed in the decision that this authority also lies with “their elected representatives.”
Our nationwide condition boasts the need for urgent action on the issue of life. Our country is marked by unfettered access to mifepristone, murky regulation of Title X funding, and soon-to-be restored funding for large abortion providers, revealing the need for a continued persistent advocacy in defense of the preborn. The consideration of these bills sends the signal that while we celebrate the anniversary of the Dobbs decision, our work is not done. We call on senators to uphold the values of their constituents and urge them to vote for legislation that honors and protects human life.
