What is the Marriage Initiative, and who funded that work?

Marriage Initiative

Anticipating what would become the Obergerfell Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage in the summer of 2015, the ERLC submitted a proposal to the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention in the fall of 2014 and received a $250,000 grant from their budget overage toward the Marriage Initiative. This initiative was a holistic effort that included events, resources, and relationship building to equip Southern Baptists and their churches to hold fast to God’s teaching for marriage and sexuality during this monumental cultural shift. One event sponsored by this grant, titled “The Gospel & Same-Sex Marriage,” featured pastors and formerly gay Christians and addressed how churches and Christians should respond to the issue. The event was hosted by The Austin Stone Community Church and was simulcast live to homes and churches across the country.
