The ERLC frequently works within coalitions on issues important to Southern Baptists. The ERLC’s work with a coalition does not signify agreement on other issues that the individual organizations support or even on every aspect of the issue for which it is discussing.
Under the leadership of past ERLC President, Dr. Richard Land, the ERLC joined other evangelical organizations to found the Evangelical Immigration Table (EIT). Though members of the EIT continue to hold differing positions on many issues, the organizations agreed to work towards a bipartisan solution to immigration reform that upholds six foundational principles that Southern Baptists have consistently supported:
- Respecting the God-given dignity of every person;
- Protecting the unity of the immediate family;
- Respecting the rule of law;
- Guaranteeing secure national borders;
- Ensuring fairness to taxpayers;
- Establishing a path toward legal status and/or citizenship for those who qualify and who wish to become permanent residents.
Additionally, the ERLC has never taken any funding from George Soros or Soros-related entities. For additional information, please visit this Baptist Press article from 2020.
