Understanding the Pro-Abortion Constitutional Amendment on Your Ballot

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Gen. 1:27)

Montana is currently facing a significant threat to human dignity in the form of a ballot initiative titled “Constitutional Initiative 128” or “(CI-128”). If passed, this would amend the state’s constitution to enshrine the right to abortion in Montana.

A “no” vote would mean pro-life laws remain on the books, restricting abortion. 

A “yes” vote would adopt the amendment and prevent the state legislature from enacting any new laws to protect ​​the preborn prior to viability. Currently, abortion in Montana is legal until “fetal viability.” If this amendment passes, it will overturn all existing regulations on abortion and will likely weaken the conscience rights of healthcare workers and institutions who do not want to participate in abortions.

What can Montana Christians do about the proposed amendment? 

There are several ways you can work to promote a culture of life in Montana: 

  • Pray for wisdom and discernment for voters in Montana, for the defeat of this amendment, and for a robust culture of life to take hold
  • Educate others about the true nature of this proposal. 
  • Stand for life at the ballot box. Every vote against this initiative counts in the effort to protect life.
  • Advocate by contacting your local representatives and expressing your concerns about this amendment. Encourage them to stand firm in their defense of life.
  • Support pro-life organizations by volunteering with or donating to those who are actively working to defeat this amendment and promote a culture of life in Montana.
