ERLC Urges Support for Ukraine, Other Allies

‘When America steps back from engaging in the world, evil will fill that vacuum,’ says Leatherwood

Nashville, Tenn., April 12, 2024 —The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention sent a letter today to leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives in support of the people of Ukraine in their struggles to protect their national sovereignty.

Brent Leatherwood, president of the ERLC, commented on the letter, “When America steps back from engaging in the world, evil will fill that vacuum. Now is not the time for the U.S. to abandon our allies and friends as they face down threats from autocrats and terrorists. The people of Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan need to know that we have their back. Southern Baptists have long understood the unique threat to innocent lives posed by despotic regimes and that is why we are urging Congress to take action now.”
