WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 31, 2017—Russell Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, lent his support to President Donald Trump’s nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch as the next justice for the U.S. Supreme Court today.

He is a brilliant and articulate defender of Constitutional originalism in the mold of the man he will replace: Justice Antonin Scalia. Gorsuch is from Denver, Colorado, and was the youngest candidate on Trump’s nominee short-list. He was appointed by President George W. Bush on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit in 2006. Having written a scholarly volume against the legalization of euthanasia, he has also sided with Christian employers and religious organizations in the Burwell vs. Hobby Lobby and the Little Sisters of the Poor Supreme Court cases.
